Tires tracing the paved network

on the way to retrieve pieces of my life

while I bid farewell to the mountaintop winter

and the spring landscape came alive.

A weary me near Columbus, Montana where the poem in my head was written. Almost 1000 miles behind me and a few hundred left to go.

A weary me near Columbus, Montana where the poem in my head was written. Almost 1000 miles behind me and a few hundred left to go.

My destination, shadowed times didn’t spoil,

for there were too many blessings to remember,

and as my weary self pondered a lifetime’s artifacts

it was the heartfelt tokens I treasured.

Escaping, I drove where the past couldn’t go

though memories survived,

and as I left behind the familiar and headed home

I realized I’d silenced the pain and kept the love alive.
