Remain

On the eve of the end
I stood on the edge
and fumbled for reasons to remain
while humans watched blind
and interest turned away.

Around me the breeze played
and the branches swayed
and nature seemed to say,
“Remain.”

As I looked towards the sky
the sun dried my eyes
and warmed upon me a reason why
while nature’s embrace
held me tight in a sigh.

  2. Beautiful, powerful and how many people feel. I wish my brother could have remained. You have such a way with words Christina. I hope life is being kind to you and nature still has the power to give you strength, optimism and inspire your creativity.

    • Nature, it seems, always has the power to lift me up even when there aren’t people to lean upon. That’s a lot of the reason I moved to Missoula where nature is more accessible. As I recall, Kath, you did much the same. It has made me smile this spring to see that my squirrel is back and that he’s thriving (and growing quite chubby, actually). To celebrate, I fed him again.
