Little faces, little smiles coming alive,
and yet, all the while, what fate can they choose?
When we trade away we lose what we gain,
but we can’t stand still because there’s too much to lose.
What do we do?
We preserve what we need
that the past has given.
We keep what we have
that we’ll need along the way.
We reach for the moon
and keep on trying
until we get it right for the little ones lacking a say.
Seems simple, right?
So simple a child could do it,
and yet we fail them time and again.
Maybe we need to get out of the way
and give this world to the children.
