Seventeen seventy-six
in America:
people dying,
tragedy and horror,
demanding the rights
they should already have.

Eighteen sixty-three
in America:
people dying,
tragedy and horror,
demanding the rights
never shared.

Nineteen sixty-five
in America:
people dying,
tragedy and horror,
demanding the rights
routinely denied.

Twenty sixteen
in America:
people dying,
tragedy and horror,
still demanding the rights
they should already have.

Two hundred forty years
in America:
when do we reach the point
where we should have began?
