Candles Standing

This life within a candlelit room,
each flame another heartbeat I yearn to shelter,
but my flesh, it burns,
and the flames they do flicker,
each becoming a glowing wick
as the room grows darker,
the comforting light reduced to the shelter in my mind,
the room reduced to candles standing, but glowing no more.
