We’re undercover operatives
in life’s hide and seek
clinging to the truth of who we are,
but fearing should we speak.
Having to justify our existence
should we stray from the line,
fearful that what other operatives see
is our truth inside.
We spend a lifetime drowning,
our heads fearing the sun,
hiding our truth to escape disgrace
and knowing the lie has won.
