Light and Dark

In the absence of light
you can either cower in fear
or embrace the darkness.

I was taught to cherish the light,
but what embraced me
was the darkness,
to have and to hold
when my arms held me alone.

Upon opening the eyes
see the darkest night
is, on average, a gray day.

Beholding with monochrome eyes,
seeing life as charcoal on white
on a rainy day,
a rain I shared,
for my tears weren’t mine alone.
