Clock ticking.
The man upstairs clears his throat.
Cars pass by.
A plane overhead.
Clouds, wind-borne, end sunlight’s hold.
Incense. Morning tea.
Candle casts shadows.
Flame gives light, but not for its own sake.
All woven in a fabric,
made stronger in the binding,
so long as giving outweighs what we take.
