Never Make a Sound

Each night would fall so hard,
yet never make a sound.
Behind walls he could walk through,
you could never risk a sound.
That’s what victims do, isn’t it?
Never make a sound?

Each year the victimizer walked free,
and you walked in silence.
Alone in your invisible prison,
you never broke your silence.
That’s what victims do, isn’t it?
Never break their silence?

Each decade spent longing for a voice,
a way to break the quiet.
To shatter the walls and ease the hurt
your voice must break the quiet.
That’s what victims do, isn’t it?
Find a voice to break the quiet?

Only if they want to live.
