Strangled heart,
open so long,
so long longing,
wanting to love,
waiting to give,
but instead lamenting.

Strangled heart,
its passion shriveling,
its strength withering,
fading to dust,
pain turned to sighs
until there’s no caring.

Strangled heart,
a treasure she held
she placed on the shelf,
its magic bleeding,
no longer singing,
love closing in on itself.
