Sometimes She Died

Sometimes she needed to escape the lies.
Sometimes she held herself and cried.
Sometimes she died.

Sometimes her hope frayed against the “why’s.”
Sometimes her visions of diversity whispered goodbye.
Sometimes she died.

Sometimes she suffered the pain of truth’s sighs.
Sometimes her heart broke against hatred’s cries.
Sometimes she died.

Every time she came back to life.
Every time she refused to cease the fight.
Every time the world was better because she tried.
